Men's Forum

MEN’s FORUM The Men’s Forum continues to hold a monthly informal meeting over a two course lunch provided by Working World at St. Mary and St. Egwin’s Catholic Church Hall, High Street, Evesham on the third Wednesday of the month. In August, with Working World taking a well-earned holiday, the lunch was held at The Round of Gras, Badsey with the majority of members in attendance opting for the Carvery. On the 3rd September members enjoyed a visit to the Forge Mill Needle Museum in Redditch, having a guided tour of the museum and looking round the Visitor Centre. It was a fascinating place to visit and realise the remarkable number of processes needed to produce sewing and other needles in bygone days. Models and recreated scenes provided a good illustration of how needles were once made and how the Redditch Area once produced 90% of the world’s needles! After the museum tour the group enjoyed an excellent three course buffet lunch at the Kings Court Hotel, Alcester to round off another enjoyable day out. New Members are always welcome and should you know of anyone interested in joining the Men’s Forum then please pass on my contact details - Mobile: 07970 568696 or Email: mervynleggett49@gmail.com MERVYN LEGGETT

Men's Forum Update

MEN’s FORUM The Men’s Forum have been active with a number of further enjoyable trips out arranged since the last Newsletter. In May the group had lunch at the Royal Horse, Leamington Spa before having a tour of the Guide Dogs National Centre at Bishops Tachbrook. The tour around the state-of-the-art facility proved to be both inter-active and informative detailing how every guide dog journey starts with the Centres life-changing puppies and their important work in helping people with sight loss to lead independent lives. June saw the group visit the RAF Museum, Midlands at Cosford and learn more about the unique history of the RAF and view the vast array of aircraft and displays in several hangars, including the National Cold War Exhibition, War in the Air, RAF Stories: the first 100 years (1918-2018) and Art Exhibition. In July we made a return visit to the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Steam Railway and enjoyed a journey from Toddington Station to Cheltenham Racecourse Station and return. On arrival back at Toddington we went for an excellent lunch at The Pheasant Inn to round off another enjoyable day out. A Carvery Lunch at The Round of Gras, Badsey is planned for August and a visit to Forge Mill Needle Museum Redditch is programmed for September. As well as the trips out, the Men’s Forum continue to meet monthly at St Mary and St Egwin’s Catholic Church Hall, High Street, Evesham with a two course lunch provided by Working World. Trip to Envirosort

Members were invited by Emma Stokes and the late Peter Griffiths to visit Envirosort at Norton to see how our recycling is sorted. Very interesting, if you get a chance to go I recommend it. We saw what you can and can't recycle and the technology that makes it happen. Unusual things found on the conveyor belt ranged from a snake to a full sized replica broad sword, both of which should have been in recycling. If in doubt put in the black bin. We were pleased to hear that the black bin waste gets incinerated and turned into electricity so not a complete waste. Interesting fact... one drinks can can be recycled to heat three microwaveable meals!
